Highlands County Quilt Guild

Quilting In The Highlands

About HCQG

5th Tuesday in October
Hi Ladies,
As you know the previously scheduled Community Service workshop for the
Preemie Blankets has been postponed until Karen Whorley returns to oversee the
project she has planned.
In Lieu of that, several of the girls mentioned at our second guild gathering today
(Tuesday, October 17, 2017) that we should still use the Fifth Tuesday (October
31, 2017) to work on completing community service projects. I have two
Veterans’ Kits that need to be done. These quilts are for the Freedom Flight
Sponsored by the Rotary Club in early 2018.
Pat Villere is our go to contact person for this project and she has stated we have
24 veterans from Highlands County that will be going on that flight. I have 15
completed quilts so we need Quilters to come the fifth Tuesday to help finish the
tops that have been made and turned in to Pat. Just straight stitching on this pattern
is all that is needed; anyone with a walking foot on their machine can do this.
Please help us show our appreciation to our Veterans!!!
Thanks so much,
Pat Villere & Josi Moroney

October 31, 2017 – Temporarily Cancelled; Karen Whorley will reschedule this.  If you wish to make a quilt for the Neo-Natal Units of our local hospitals before she returns with kits/pattern, the little “blankies” should be no larger than 24” x 24” with NO batting. Please turn those over to Kristen Diefenthaler at any meeting.

Established in 1993, we are a non-profit organization dedicated to making and preserving quilts and promoting educational and philanthropic endeavors through quilting.

We sponsor a quilt show biennially and are a community minded organization.  We contribute to our county through service projects both in monetary and quilt donations.  We supply quilts to many charities, such as the Humane Society, Children’s Advocacy Center, oncology units at local hospitals, the Salvation Army, Veterans, Cornerstone, and Hope Hospices, Grace Place, a women’s shelter, and Habitat for Humanity.

We meet on the first and third Tuesday of each month from 10 am. to 3 pm. at the Avon Park Christian Church located at 1016 West Camphor Street in Avon Park, FL.  The BUSINESS MEETING is held at 1:00 p.m. on the first Tuesday.  The Crazy Quilt group gathers about 10:00 on the third Tuesday.

Community Service days are held the fifth Tuesday of the month in months in which they occur.

My name is Laurie Lynch. At the Lakeland Quilt Show I met a lady from your guild but I have forgotten her name. She told me her husband is the bakery manager at Winn Dixie. I would love to get in touch with her. My phone number is 603-397-9354. Gratefully, Laurie

I am interested in improving my quilting skills and would like to know more about membership in your Quilt Guild. I am a full time resident of Lake Placid and would consider myself a “confident beginner”. My phone # is 863-464-0689. Thank you for your help..Karen R
